How to Create your own Email Stationery

Thanks to COG SCI 187

Creating stationery with an image in it requires using a mailer with html capacity. Netscape, Outlook express, Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000 do, and so does the most recent Eudora. In general it is as simple as finding where you make stationery and adding an image location through a wizard or dialogue box. Here are the instructions for making stationery for the major mailers.
Outlook Express

To create stationery use the stationery wizard.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Compose tab.
  2. In the Stationery area, click Create New.
Some tips...
  • To use stationery you see in a message from someone else, select the message, and then on the File menu, click Save as Stationery.
  • A stationery file is an HTML file and can be edited in Outlook Express. In a new message window, click the View menu, click Source Edit, and then click the Source tab to make changes.
  • When creating your stationery, try to keep the file size smaller than 10 KB. Pictures and other objects can make the file too large to be easily downloaded. (Check the size of your stationery inside the Stationery folder at: \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft

Outlook 98 and 2000

This procedure is only available if you use HTML as your message format.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
  2. In the Send in this message format box, click HTML.
  3. Click Stationery Picker, and then click New.
  4. In the Enter a name for your new Stationery box, enter a name.
  5. Under Choose how to create your Stationery, select whether to start from scratch or use an existing stationery.
  6. To select a file to base your stationery on, type the path and file name in the Use this file as a template box or click Browse to select from a list.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select the options you want to use. For Help on an option, click the question mark, and then click the option.
If you like the stationery in a message that you received from someone, you can save it as your own stationery.
    In the message
  • click the File menu
  • click Save Stationery
  • enter a file name
  • and then click OK.

Eudora

To create a new stationery file, do the following:
  1. Open the Stationery window: select Stationery from the Tools menu, or click the Stationery window's tab if it is the inactive window in a tabbed group.
  2. Right-click anywhere inside the Stationery window and select New... from the context menu. Eudora opens a composition window to be used for stationery. The Send/Queue button is inactive in the window; thus the message cannot be sent or queued.
  3. Put the text you want into the message body, fill in the headers as appropriate (subject, copies, etc.), and set the Toolbar.
  4. Select Save As Stationery from the File menu to display the Save as Stationery dialog.
  5. Enter a file name and click Save to save the stationery file. The file is saved to your Stationery folder.
  6. Close the stationery message.

Netscape

In 4.6 version of Netscape there does not seem to be stationery per se. But you can easily achieve the same effect by creating a background that you will use as your default. To do so, simple add a background gif to a new message and save it as your message settings.
    Here's how:
  1. First start a new message. Open the Format menu and choose Page Colors and Properties. In the Page Properties dialog box, click the Colors and Background tab.
  2. Click to use an image as the page background. Type the name of an image file. If you're not sure of the filename or file location, click Choose File to find the image file on your hard disk or network.
  3. Background images are tiled and override background color.
  4. Save these settings for new pages.
  5. Click this option if you want your settings to apply to any new web pages you create.
  6. To preview your settings, click Apply. To accept the changes, click OK.
